The Data Scientist and Data Analyst professions are in high demand, offering attractive salaries due to the scarcity of these professionals. The similarities between these two roles raise the question of the differences in skills between a Data Analyst and a Data Scientist. If you're wondering how much a Data Scientist or Data Analyst earns, this article aims to provide comprehensive information on the salaries of these data experts. Salaries can reach high levels, especially with the evolution of new technologies, even for those with a bachelor's degree. Some professionals can earn up to 100,000 euros a year, underlining the growing importance of data analysis in various sectors.

The salary of a data scientist

What factors go into calculating a Data Scientist's salary?

Many factors come into play when calculating the salary of a Data Scientist, such as the company, its sector of activity, the geographical location of the job, but above all the skills of the Data Scientist you are. If you take these characteristics into account, you can see that salaries vary considerably from one position to another.

Junior to Senior Data Scientist salary

As mentioned above, a Data Scientist's salary depends on a number of factors. Indeed, it's worth noting that a Data Scientist's salary depends enormously on his or her experience. In France, the average salary ranges from €32,000 to €61,000, according to Payscale.

There's a big difference between a Data Scientist's minimum salary and the maximum he or she can expect to earn. In fact, a Data Scientist's salary depends on a number of factors, such as seniority and expertise (Junior Data Scientist/Senior Data Scientist).

Junior Data Scientist salary (beginner): €42,565 on average, rising to €58,000

Data Scientist mid-career salary (intermediate): €53,169 on average, rising to €81,000

Senior Data Scientist (expert) salary: €71,500, rising to €97,000

So there's a big difference in salary for the same job, depending on the experience and skills acquired throughout the career. There are two reasons for this. We believe that the salary of a Data Scientist in France exposed by payscale is below the average applied on the French job market. Furthermore, the salary of a Data Scientist depends on several factors, such as the location of the future Data Scientist. For example, a Data Scientist's salary in Paris is not the same as a Data Scientist's salary in a small town.

A Data Scientist's salary in Paris is therefore at the upper end of the range, while a smaller city may be at the lower end.

Data Analyst VS Data Scientist: do the similarities between these two professions also apply to their salaries? How much do Data Analysts earn?

What factors go into calculating the salary of a Data Scientist or Data Analyst?

A Data Analyst's salary will depend on a number of factors. Some Data Analysts may focus more on analyzing the past, or on static data, while others may concentrate on predictive modeling, more akin to that of a Data Scientist. Because of these differences per single job, a data analyst's salary can increase significantly. So adding skills to your knowledge base can only be good for you, as it can have a considerable benefit on your salary.

So, depending on your skills, a data analyst's salary can be higher or lower. If a data analyst job description requires you to have the following skills: Python, R, SQL, programming, A/B testing and predictive modeling (etc.) you can expect the job to pay better than if the job description is more focused on Excel, PowerPoint/Google Slides, Tableau (etc.). The salary of a Data Analyst will therefore depend on the skills you possess. It is estimated that thehe salary of a Data Analyst in France ranges from an average of €31,000 to €56,000, but can quickly increase with seniority.

Junior Data Analyst salary (beginner) : €40,249 on average, rising to €54,000.

Mid-career Data Analyst salary: €46,456 on average, rising to €67,000.

Senior Data Analyst salary (expert): €52,400, rising to €66,000

Once again, we believe that salaries in France are higher than the average assessed by Payscal. This can be justified by a number of factors, including geographical location and the skills of the data analyst.

In other words, if you live in a big city and have the skills we mentioned above, you can expect to earn a much higher salary - which may equal or exceed the salary of a Data Scientist.

A Data Analyst's salary depends on his or her skills:

To illustrate the difference in salary depending on the Data Analyst's CV and skills, we have chosen two Paris-based Data Analysts, both mid-career.

There are big differences in salary. We're talking about the same city, the same level of seniority, but with additional skills and therefore missions closer to those of a data scientist or data engineer. With this information, you can see how the importance of a few changes in your experience can lead to a significant amount of a Data Analyst's salary.

In short, the remuneration of a Data Analyst & Data Scientist evolves considerably throughout their career. We also note that the salary of a Data Analyst & Data Scientist is highly dependent on skills. It's therefore important that a Data Analyst's or Data Scientist's resume is enriched with skills, as this can make a big difference to a Data Scientist's or Data Analyst's salary.

As we've seen, the job description of a Data Analyst or Data Scientist can vary according to the demands of the employer and the skills of the Data Analyst. What's more, a Data Analyst's salary depends on his or her skills. It's therefore important to consolidate your skills to hope for a better salary.
